The Kapiti Chamber of Commerce is encouraging businesses to nominate their excellent young employees for the new Kapiti ‘Shout Out’ Awards.

“Anyone with a business knows the importance of their staff to the business,” says Chamber Chairman Mark Ternent. “The ‘Shout Out’ Awards give employers the opportunity to recognise the talented young people who work for them.”

“By holding these people up as an example, the Awards also serve to encourage pride in others and team-building.” “In addition, the Awards come at a time when youth drinking offences have been in the limelight and promoting young people who have achieved in their community can encourage those having
problems to change their behaviour. What better role-models to have than your peers.”

The ‘Shout Out’ Awards recognise the talents, skills and abilities of youth in the District, replacing the old College Awards. They are open to a wider age group i.e. anyone between 13 to 24 years and more categories (nine in total) are included. “Let’s make sure the achievements of Kapiti’s youth, whether they’re in the arts, environment, business, trades or community, are recognised, celebrated and encouraged,” Mark Ternent says.

Application forms are available from libraries and Council’s Service Centre or they can be downloaded from the Council website at ww.kapiticoast.govt.nz/youth. This site has more information about the Awards and the categories involved.

Nominations close on Friday 9 November at 3pm. Award winners will be recognised at a formal awards evening on Thursday 6 December. They will receive a letter from the Mayor acknowledging their achievements, a $100 Coastlands voucher, a certificate and a trophy. Each winner will also have an opportunity to spend time with a life coach to talk through their future ideas, plans and aspirations.
