The Kapiti Coast Chamber of Commerce welcomes the proposed review of Council’s Economic Development Strategy.

“The current strategy has done little to advance economic development in Kapiti” says Chair of the Chamber, Liz Koh. The recently released Economic Profile of the Kapiti region performed by Infometrics shows our economic growth was negative 1% for the year ended March 2013, which ranks us in the lowest 10% of economic growth districts within New Zealand. “Our members tell us that one of the biggest barriers to economic development in Kapiti is Council itself, and their focus needs to be on making their processes and practices more business friendly” says Koh.

As the leading business organisation in Kapiti, the Chamber has expressed to Council the desire to be actively involved in helping them achieve this aim and working with them to develop a new strategy. Koh says “We believe there is significant economic opportunity for Kapiti over the next few years but we have to work together and have the right processes in place or the opportunities will be missed”.
