The Kapiti Chamber of Commerce welcomes the draft decision of the MacKays to Peka Peka

Expressway Board of Inquiry issued today.

Taken together with the Transmission Gulley route decision, this is an end to decades of uncertainty and will bring a boost to the whole region. It is the least disruptive of the possible routes through Kapiti. It's a relief that this stage of the process is over.

We need time to fully study the conditions, but it is imperative that the route through Kapiti uses the best technology available for reduction and mitigation of environmental effects. It is also critical that the affected parties are dealt with promptly and fairly.

Kapiti has grown significantly in recent decades and has a lot to offer the region economically through its own businesses and through its commuting population. Kapiti also needs more jobs for its own people as it moves toward being a great place to live, play and work. The Expressway will help with both of these matters. We look forward to the day when Wellington through-traffic on our local roads is a thing of the past.
