Are you wanting to see change in our local politics?  More business representation in local council?  Not sure how it works, or where to start?

The Kapiti Coast Chamber of Commerce is hosting a free ‘Bring about Change’ event with guest political speakers including NZ Politician Nick Leggett and Political PR advisor Jacinda Thorn.

The event will cover off the need for increased business representation in local council as well as practical ‘how to’s’ in supporting those running for council as well help for those that may wish to stand for local body elections this year in October.

Light refreshments will be provided on arrival and be followed by the presentations.  All business people welcome – no charge – please book online for catering purposes.

Liz Koh, Kapiti Coast Chamber of Commerce Chair will speak on:

Nick Leggett has been the Mayor of Wellington’s close neighbour, Porirua City, for the past six years. Prior to being elected in 2010, he worked in commercial real estate for Colliers International in Wellington. He was first elected to the Porirua City Council in 1998, aged 19.

One of New Zealand’s best-known Local Government Leaders with a national media profile, Nick remains New Zealand’s youngest Mayor. He is a strong advocate for world-class services and infrastructure in New Zealand’s capital city.

He believes Wellington needs new energy and new leadership to create fertile conditions for economic growth, fresh investment and high-paying jobs.

In addition to his role as a current Mayor, Nick is a Board member of the Capital and Coast District Health Board, Chair of the Wellington Regional Emergency Management Group and Chair of the Spark Foundation. Nick has a BA in Politics from Victoria University of Wellington.


Jacinda Thorn is an experienced communications professional with a specialist background in strategy and risk management.

A qualified journalist, Jacinda has worked in strategic advisory positions to Government Ministers Hon. Tony Ryall and Hon. Nikki Kaye, and worked as a consultant in Government and Corporate Relations.

She has skills in risk analysis and management, corporate strategy, media management and communications, relationship management, political management and government policy and strategy.
