Kapiti Coast Chamber of Commerce Submission to Kapiti Coast District Council 2016/2017 Annual Plan

Liz Koh has submitted comments to the proposed 2016/2017 Annual Plan that focus on the funding of economic development.  Liz says, “Kapiti has huge potential to grow if we want to.  We need to decide as a community whether we wish to stay as we are, with few opportunities for young people and around 20% of our workforce commuting to Wellington, or take up the opportunities to grow our economy to provide local jobs.”

Over the last 18 months, the Chamber has been involved in the development and implementation of the Kapiti Coast Economic Development Strategy, with its four pillars of:

  1. Open for Business Council
  2. Building Capability
  3. Positioning Kapiti
  4. Leadership and Responsiveness

While some progress has been made, it is clear that there is a disconnect between strategy and budget and this is hindering the achievement of these strategies.
